Report: Redknapp wants deal for Tommy Elphick in 24 hours, targets reunion with Aaron Lennon

Birmingham City manager Harry Redknapp

Birmingham City are pushing for two more signings under Harry Redknapp.

According to the Daily Mail, Birmingham City boss Harry Redknapp aims to tie up a deal for Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick in the next 24 hours – and also wants Everton winger Aaron Lennon.

The Blues have been busy in the transfer market already this summer, having landed David Stockdale, Marc Roberts and Cheikh N'Doye, but Redknapp unsurprisingly wants further additions.

Redknapp has been known to explore various avenues of the transfer market over his managerial career, and he is now looking to complete the signing of an Aston Villa player – something rarely seen between the two local rivals.

The Daily Mail report that Birmingham are hoping to seal a deal for Villa defender Tommy Elphick in the next 24 hours, boosting Redknapp's defence even further after the capture of Roberts.

Elphick, 29, joined Villa from Bournemouth last summer with a reputation as a leader, having captained the Cherries to promotion from League One and the Championship – but he struggled with Villa.

The experienced centre back is now behind James Chester, Nathan Baker and new signing John Terry in the Villa pecking order, and he looks set to make the short trip to St. Andrews this week.

The report adds that Redknapp also wants to take Everton winger Aaron Lennon on loan, having worked with the former England international at Tottenham Hotspur.

30-year-old Lennon is returning to football this summer having been detained under the Mental Health Act back in May for a stress-related illness, and Redknapp now hopes to reunite with him at St. Andrews.
