Jordan Veretout still looks extremely likely to leave Aston Villa this summer, but where the midfielder will go remains uncertain with the Birmingham Mail reporting Real Betis have now entered the race for his signature.
Betis are looking to act quickly and enter negotiations with Veretout's representatives as soon as possible, with the Spanish club favouring a loan move for the 24-year-old.
Saint-Etienne manager Oscar Garcia
According to French publication L'Equipe, Saint-Etienne are still interested in the Villa man themselves, having been impressed by him after spending the 2016/17 season on loan at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
Manager Oscar Garcia has been directly in contact with Veretout over the phone and it is believed the Frenchman is open to a move back to St Etienne.
However, the Ligue 1 outfit are yet to agree a fee with the Villans, with the Express and Star previously reporting that the Birmingham side wanted £7m.
Veretout is currently with the Villa squad as part of pre-season and went on tour to Portugal and also played in a recent 4-0 friendly victory over Telford.
