Bayern Munich's Juan Bernat would take Liverpool to another level

The talented left-back would solve a real problem position for Liverpool.

Jürgen Klopp guided his Reds side to a place inside the Champions League places last season, and will have to strengthen his squad accordingly this summer, as he looks to build a group of players capable of contending for major honours on all fronts.

One particular area where the German will want to bolster is the left-back position, after James Milner performed the auxiliary role for the entirety of the campaign last term.

Whilst the 31-year-old slotted in admirably, Klopp will surely want to add an established left-back to his ranks during the off-season.

And with this in mind, Liverpool should consider a move for Bayern Munich star Juan Bernat, who has been starved of regular starts for the Bavarians since joining them in 2014.

The former Valencia man is a top-tier performer, however, and could prove to be a fantastic asset to the Merseyside outfit.

He is wonderfully versatile, and can operate as a left-back and left winger with equal competence. He is highly experienced in playing at the very top level, and would add a certain kind of winning mentality to a Reds side who are currently desperately bereft of that particular quality.

Some would argue that the Spaniard would have no interest in leaving the German champions for Anfield, but the pull of a manager with Klopp's energy and reputation cannot be underestimated.

Bernat would also surely be guaranteed regular first-team football at Liverpool - something that is far from the case at the Allianz Arena.

The 24-year-old has just two years remaining on his current deal with Bayern, so they might just be tempted into selling him this summer, rather than allow him to enter the final year of his contract next summer.

And if Klopp manages to bring Bernat to Merseyside, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for Liverpool.
