Should Leeds try for Filip Helander before making Aden Flint move?

Leeds United need a new centre-back and there are some exciting players who could be available for the right price.

It is no secret that Leeds United need a new centre-back this summer, with former loanee Kyle Bartley heading back to his parent club and the Whites left with just Pontus Jansson and the much-maligned Liam Cooper as senior options heading into the new campaign.

So when Bristol City defender Aden Flint liked a tweet suggesting Leeds should make a move for him, it sent social media into meltdown.

With a recent report from the Daily Mail claiming City are willing to listen to offers for Flint, valuing him at around £4million, a Leeds move makes sense. However, is there another centre-back Whites boss Thomas Christiansen should bid for before turning his attention to the Championship player?

A recent comment from a HITC reader suggested Leeds should be going all out for Bologna's Filip Helander who, at 24, is four years younger than Flint and the ideal long-term defensive partner for Jansson if a deal can be struck.

With Goal.com claiming earlier this summer that Christiansen was keen to bring Helander to Elland Road, it may be wise to go all in for the Swede before switching attention to Flint, even if Bologna value their player at around £5.2million.

If the Serie A side have absolutely no intention of selling Helander this summer, and the player is keen to remain where he is, then so be it.  But he would be a brilliant addition to Leeds' squad and the Whites should at least make a renewed attempt to sign him.

After all, he possesses the innate ability to excel in the top tier of English football and, with Leeds aiming to finally secure promotion in 2018, they should already be looking at the kind of player that can keep them there for the long haul.
