Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk is considering handing in a transfer request in order to move to Premier League rivals Liverpool in the summer transfer window, according to The Sun on Sunday (print edition, page 66, July 16, 2017).
It has been reported that Van Dijk wants to move only to Liverpool in the summer transfer window, and that the defender is manager Jurgen Klopp’s number one target.
The Netherlands international has been superb for the Saints since his move from Scottish giants Celtic in the summer of 2015.
Southampton have sold some of their best players in recent years, such as Victor Wanyama and Adam Lallana, and it should not come as a surprise if in the end they do let Van Dijk leave for Liverpool.
Van Dijk would not be a cheap signing for Liverpool, though, as according to The Sun, Southampton value the Dutchman at £50 million.
