According to The Independent, Everton are interested in Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi, having joined the race for his signature late in the day.
The Toffees have already added five big signings this summer in Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen, Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney, but more could be on the way.
Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi
Having loaned Brendan Galloway out to Sunderland and seen Ramiro Funes Mori suffer a setback in his recovery from injury, manager Ronald Koeman ideally needs a left-footed defender who can play at centre back and left back.
Now, The Independent report that Koeman is targeting a reunion with Porto defender Martins Indi, having previously worked with him at Feyenoord in their native Netherlands.
Martins Indi, 25, joined Porto from Feyenoord in 2014 having starred for the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and after two years with the Portuguese giants, he joined Stoke City on loan last summer.
With 35 Premier League appearances last season, Martins Indi was a key player for Stoke, but the Potters missed their deadline to sign him on a permanent basis for around £8million.
Now, Porto are believed to be looking for north of £10million, and whilst the scrap for his signature was believed to be between Stoke and Crystal Palace, Everton appear to have entered the race at the last minute.
Crystal Palace's Andros Townsend in action with Bruno Martins Indi
Having played at centre back and left back under Koeman with Feyenoord, Martins Indi has already shown that he is exactly what Everton are looking for right now, and an impressive Premier League campaign has shown that he can excel in English football.
Everton should now be pressing to tie up Martins Indi's signature and hand him a reunion with Koeman, given that he fits the bill for what the Toffees need – and that would certainly frustrate Premier League rivals Palace and Stoke.
