Tottenham's Moussa Sissoko waits to come on as a substitute

Moussa Sissoko is back in training at Tottenham.

This time last year Moussa Sissoko was riding a high as his transfer value soared after his impressive displays at Euro 2016.

Tottenham Hotspur were suckered in by Newcastle to pay £30 million for the midfielder on deadline day, a move which has predictably fallen flat.

Now as the 2017/18 season gears up, Sissoko is back - preparing for the campaign as a Tottenham player.

The £30 million midfielder had been a player Tottenham hoped to have off their books already, with The Mirror reporting in May that they hoped to sell him instantly after a poor season.

Sissoko made only eight starts for Spurs last season - which did not exactly put him in the shop window for potential suitors.

Sissoko was back at Spurs at the weekend doing tests in preparation for a pre-season.

He did not get one at Tottenham last year, which did not help him get used to Mauricio Pochettino's demands.

He may need a move to win a place in France's World Cup squad next year, but Tottenham have not exactly been active in the transfer market themselves.

The only club linked with taking Sissoko from Spurs lately have been Marseille, who only want a loan deal according to French website RTL Sport.

As it stands Sissoko will be under consideration for selection for Tottenham against Newcastle in a month's time when the Premier League season kicks off.

Not exactly the swift sale Spurs had optimistically hoped for.
