Barnsley's Cole Kpekawa (L) in action with Aston Villa's Albert Adomah
Barnsley defender Cole Kpekawa is set for a move for Colchester United, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Kpekawa only joined Barnsley last summer on transfer deadline day after his surprise departure from Queens Park Rangers.
The 21-year-old was regarded as one of QPR's top prospects and his departure came as a shock to many.
Kpekawa, who made nine appearances for the QPR first team after graduating the club's academy, struggled to make an impact at Barnsley last season.
The left-back only made seven appearances for the Tykes following his arrival at Oakwell and did not feature after October for Paul Heckingbottom's side.
Cole Kpekawa in action on loan at Colchester
Barnsley are now willing to let Kpekwa move on with the arrival of Zeki Fryers from Crystal Palace pushing him further down the pecking order.
A number of clubs have expressed an interest in Kpekwa, but Colchester have moved quickly to agree a deal to bring him back to the club for a second time.
Kpekawa enjoyed a two-month loan spell at Colchester from QPR during the 2014/15 season and made six appearances for the U's.
