Newcastle United are said to be keen on Leicester City's Algerian international.
According to Algerian publication Le Buteur, Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Islam Slimani from Leicester City this summer.
The 29-year-old only joined the Foxes last summer, after impressing for Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon. However a return of eight goals and five assists in 25 appearances (many from the bench) means the former league champions are allegedly willing to cash in if the right offer comes along.
The latest report suggests both Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion are keeping a close eye on proceedings at the King Power Stadium, and after the Magpies' failed attempt to sign current Sporting striker Bas Dost (as reported by A Bola) they now appear to have turned their attention to a former Primeira Liga scoring sensation.
Rafa Benitez's side is in desperate need of more fire-power as they head into the new campaign, and if Slimani arrived and replicated his best form, his signing could prove to be a masterstroke.
During his time at Sporting, the Algerian found the net 57 times in 111 matches, including 27 times in just 33 league matches prior to his exit.
Dwight Gayle has been superb since arriving at St. James' Park but Newcastle need a lot more next season and Slimani could be the ideal solution, desperate to start week in, week out, seemingly available and with the skill set to thrive at Newcastle.
