Crystal Palace move ahead of Leicester in race to sign Anderlecht defender Kara Mbodji.

Crystal Palace have not given up hope of signing Anderlecht’s Kara Mbodji and are considering a fresh bid for the defender, according to the Croydon Advertiser.

The Mirror reported in May that Leicester City were the Eagles’ main rivals for Mbodji, but their subsequent capture of Harry Maguire from Hull City appears to have seen their interest cool.

Now Palace could have a great opportunity to swoop in for the 27-year-old themselves as they look for defensive recruitment over the summer.

The South London club struggled at the back last season until Mamadou Sakho arrived on loan from Liverpool and while they were keen to sign the Frenchman permanently, the Standard reports that they are unwilling to meet the Reds’ £30m asking price.

That leaves new manager Frank de Boer looking at alternatives for recruitment in central defence, which appears to have lead them back to Mbodji.

The Senegal international has been with Anderlecht for two years after joining from fellow Belgian side Genk and has since played 77 times in all competitions, winning the league title in 2016/17.
