Bolton Wanderers have tied up a deal for former Bradford City defender Stephen Derby on a free transfer, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Full-back Darby is a free agent after his release by Bradford earlier this summer.

Bolton boss Phil Parkinson has moved quickly to offer Darby a move to the Macron Stadium as he is a big fan of the right-back having worked with him during his time in charge of Bradford.

Bolton tried to land Darby last January, but Bradford decided to keep hold of the defender as both sides battled for promotion from League One.

Darby made 29 appearances for Bradford last season, but the club opted to let him leave when his contract expired earlier this summer after five years at Valley Parade.

Darby will add options to Bolton's defence as they prepare for life back in the Championship and he will battle it out with fellow new signing Mark Little for the right-back spot next season.
