West Ham United midfielder Pedro Obiang has agreed a new deal to keep him at the London Stadium, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Obiang still has two years to run on his existing contract, but West Ham have moved to tie him down to a longer deal.

Spanish midfielder Obiang was one of West Ham’s shining lights last season and he finished runner-up in the Hammer Of The Year award which was won by Michail Antonio.

Obiang’s performances have brought him to the attention of several of West Ham’s Premier League rivals and other European sides and West Ham have moved to fend off any interest by tying him down to a new long-term contract.

The 25-year-old, who joined West Ham from Sampdoria two years ago, has established himself as a key man in Slaven Bilic’s plans.

Obiang made 35 appearances in his debut season for West Ham and he made 30 appearances in all competitions last season before his campaign was cut short in March because of injury

The all-action midfielder is currently recovering from ankle surgery, but he is expected to be fit for the start of the new Premier League season.
