Tottenham linked with Swansea’s Alfie Mawson again

Tottenham Hotspur will have to pay big to sign Swansea defender Alfie Mawson.

The Sun report (2/7 page 63) that Swansea will make demand £20 million from Spurs for Mawson.

Mawson played a key role in Swansea’s survival last season, his first in the Premier League.

He capped off the season by captaining England’s under 21 side at the recent European Championships.

Swansea paid a bargain fee to sign Mawson last summer from Barnsley and could make a big profit if Spurs pay £20 million.

Tottenham have spent big money on players rarely and with infrequent success.

Expensive moves for Erik Lamela, Roberto Soldado and Moussa Sissoko have all disappointed and at £20 million Mawson would be their fourth most expensive ever signing.

He may see his first team chances limited at Spurs, unless head coach Mauricio Pochettino persists playing three at the back and he gets to line up alongside Belgian duo Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.
