Leeds United fans are unconvinced by their latest transfer target
While links with Polish and Macedonian internationals Mateusz Klich and Ezgjan Alioski have been met with cautious optimism by Leeds United supporters, it’s fair to say poor Ard van Peppen has not made the best first impression.
With Charlie Taylor, arguably the most naturally gifted left-back in the Championship, seemingly determined to leave this summer when his contract expires, Leeds fans would have been hoping for a player of equal ability and potential.
Van Peppen, however, is hardly what they had in mind. The 31-year-old Dutchman only survived relegation from the Eredivisie last season when Roda JC narrowly edged out MVV in the play-off last season.
Yet, Roda JC Live claim that Leeds have surprisingly offered him a two-year contract, much to the dismay of supporters who were hoping Andrea Radrizzani’s arrival as owner would lead to more ambitious transfer targets.
Instead, Leeds supporters will once again be forced to consult Wikipedia for information. And it will tell them that Van Peppen has spent his entire career bouncing round some of the Eredivisie’s more middling clubs, RKC Waalwijk and De Graafschap to name just two.
Its a Ard time being Van Peppen
And it’s fair to say he didn’t exactly stand out in the Dutch top flight last season. Perhaps this explains the rather incredulous reaction to reports that he could replace the homegrown Taylor in Leeds’ squad.
Leeds United's Charlie Taylor
I don't want him— BOBBY (@LUFCBobby) June 22, 2017
Really not keen on Ard Van Peppen, we don't need a past it LB to replace Taylor #lufc— LUFC fan (@GoTkunt) June 22, 2017
And now Van Peppen had to ruin that— BOBBY (@LUFCBobby) June 22, 2017
@LUFC_View ard van peppen. Going down the old route again replacing quality with very average. We all know how that pans out— SussexWhite (@winds1985lufc) June 22, 2017
The transfer itself doesn't make sense. I would be seriously worried if Leeds were interested in a player of his quality (lack of) #LUFC— Leeds Tansfer News (@LufcNews_) June 21, 2017
Would be happy with every one of the players we've been linked with so far apart from Van Peppen— Jake (@JakeLUFC_) June 21, 2017
