Hammers boss Slaven Bilic has a lot of work to do this summer, if he is to guide his side back into contention for the Europa League spots.

West Ham were incredibly disappointing last season, and spent the majority of the campaign lingering around the relegation zone, before a final flourish enabled them to finish in a rather flattering 11th position in the Premier League.

One particular area where the Croatian needs to strengthen is his defensive department, and with this in mind, he should make a bold move for Gunners star Calum Chambers, who has been linked with a £15 million move to Everton recently (Daily Mail).

The 22-year-old moved to the Emirates from Southampton in the summer of 2014, for a fee believed to be in the region of £16 million, but has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular in the Arsenal starting XI.

He spent the entirety of last season on loan with Middlesbrough, and despite the Teesside outfit's poor campaign, which eventually culminated in their relegation to the Championship, Chambers was part of of a defence that conceded the fewest goals out of any team inside the bottom half of the table.

The Gunners youngster is strong in the air, and quick along the ground. He possesses fantastic stamina levels, and is a good reader of the game, especially for someone so young.

He is also wonderfully versatile, and is equally proficient when deployed in either the centre-back or right-back positions - something that will surely appeal to Bilic, what with his lack of options in both of those departments.

And with Chambers being potentially available, for the extremely reasonable price of just £15 million, the Hammers should not hesitate to make a move for him.

His presence amongst the West Ham defence would provide them with an added level of calmness and authority, and in turn, would surely help Bilic's side make a push for the top seven next term.
