According to the Birmingham Mail, free agent defender Christopher Samba is set to take part in Aston Villa's pre-season programme as he bids to win a contract.
When Villa were short of defenders back in February, manager Steve Bruce decided to hand a trial spell to centre back Samba, who had been released by Panathinaikos in January 2017.

The 33-year-old had made his name in the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers before heading to Russia with Anzhi Makhachkala, but he quickly returned to England with Queens Park Rangers – and just as swiftly headed back to Russia with Dinamo Moscow.
His move to Panathinaikos last summer didn't reap the desired rewards, and the giant defender – who stands at 6ft 4in tall – is now hoping to win a contract with Villa as he will get another chance to shine.

That means that the Congo international will be training with Villa and featuring in pre-season friendlies, in the hope of showing his fitness and quality to ultimately win a deal at Villa Park.
Terry, 36, is a free agent having left Chelsea this summer, but with James Chester and Nathan Baker already at Villa Park, there may only be room for one of Samba or Terry in Bruce's squad, and with lower financial demands and a pre-season schedule to impress in, Samba will hope that he can be the man to bring experience to the Villa defence.
