Liverpool and West Ham United are leading the race to sign the Southampton star, according to the bookies.

Popular bookmakers SkyBET have installed the Reds as the new favourites in the race to sign Saints winger Nathan Redmond, ahead of the Hammers, who are second in the listings.

The 23-year-old has only been with Southampton for 12 months, after moving to St Mary's from Norwich City last summer, for a fee believed to be in the region of £10 million.

He impressed during his first season on the south coast, scoring seven goals in 37 Premier League outings, but worryingly for Saints fans, those performances did not go unnoticed.

And SkyBET believe that Redmond could be plying his trade away from Southampton next season, listing Liverpool as the 5/1 favourites to win the race for his signature, ahead of West Ham at 13/2.

The Southampton star would undoubtedly improve either of the aforementioned clubs. His pace and direct playing style would provide both the Merseysiders and east Londoners with a more potent option down the flanks.

It could be argued, however, that despite West Ham being priced at longer odds than Liverpool, Slaven Bilic's side actually have a better chance of signing the England international, because of the Reds' less-than amicable relationship with Southampton, due to transfers between the two clubs in recent years, and more specifically, the manner in which the Premier League giants have gone about approaching Saints players.

Redmond is still under contract at St Mary's for another four years, however, so he will not come cheap, should either side make a concrete move for the winger this summer.
