Dominic Calvert-Lewin has done well since joining Everton from Sheffield United so should they now target Sheffield Wednesday's George Hirst.

Everton are a Premier League club who have history when it comes to signing talent from the lower leagues and turning them into top flight stars.

Tim Cahill and John Stones are high profile examples from the past, while Ademola Lookman is one who is currently in their first team squad.

Another is Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and it is his success in particular that could convince the Toffees to renew their interest in another youngster from Sheffield.

Calvert-Lewin was signed from Sheffield United in the summer of 2016 and played 12 times for the Merseyside club last season, immediately making an impact in the first team when it was suspected the forward's development would take longer.

This rapid progress could well convince Everton to push forward once again in their pursuit of signing Sheffield Wednesday youngster George Hirst, with the club's Head of Under 23 recruitment, Jamie Hoyland, admitting they tried to land the 18-year-old in January.

"We were interested in him earlier on this season, I'll admit it, we put a little bid in to Sheffield Wednesday but (they said) no way," Hoyland told Sheffield Live TV.

Hirst has greatly impressed over the past 12 months, recently top-scoring with four at the Toulon Tournament as he helped England to the title and scoring 40 goals in total for club and country.

The teenager may only have two senior appearances for Wednesday to his name, but Calvert-Lewin had only played 12 times for the Blades before the Toffees signed him and it has hardly held him back.
