Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has told BBC Sport that the club haven't received any firm interest in defender Alfie Mawson despite reported interest from Tottenham.

When Swansea lost captain Ashley Williams to Premier League rivals Everton, they made a surprise move to land the comparatively inexperienced Mawson as his replacement in the heart of defence.

Snapped up from Barnsley after just four appearances in the Championship, Mawson was tasked with making a huge step up to the Premier League – and he impressed as much going forward as he did defensively.

The 23-year-old centre back not only showed off his defensive ability despite Swansea's struggles at the bottom of the table, but he also registered four goals in 27 Premier League appearances.

With two goals in four games at the start of the season for Barnsley, 14 goals in his previous two seasons and a goal for England Under-21's against Slovakia this evening, Mawson's attacking threat makes him an appealing target for clubs.

Now, The Sun report that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Mawson, with Mauricio Pochettino allegedly preparing a £15million bid to sign the defender this summer.

With Kevin Wimmer expected to leave, Spurs may well be in the market for another central defender this summer, and Hillingdon-born Mawson could be offered a return to London in his place.

However, Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has told BBC Sport that there has been no firm interest in Mawson when asked about Tottenham's interest, and feels that Mawson should stay at the Liberty Stadium and develop his game anyway.

"There has been no firm interest, but his profile is being raised, we understand that,” said Jenkins. "But we think he's got a few years left with us to develop his career,” he added.
