Striker swap deal could be perfect for Newcastle and Burnley

Newcastle United and Burnley should consider a swap deal involving two strikers linked with exits from their clubs.

Magpies striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has struggled during his time on Tyneside, and the majority of the Toon Army would not be too sad to see him leave St James' Park this summer.

Rafa Benitez will most probably sanction the Serbian's exit, if he receives a decent enough offer, although a better option for the Spaniard could be to use him in a potential swap deal for Clarets hitman Andre Gray, who they have been monitoring for the past month, according to the Chronicle.

The 25-year-old forward has pace in abundance, and would provide fantastic competition for Dwight Gayle, with Newcastle becoming too over-reliant on the former Crystal Palace hitman.

His ability to get in behind opposition defenders with intelligent runs would provide the Magpies with a more potent facet to their attacking play.

His experience of playing in the Premier League could also be a useful asset to Benitez' side, with the Newcastle squad currently rather 'Championship' heavy, as far as the playing squad is concerned.

Whilst Sean Dyche will obviously not want to lose Gray, the opportunity to bring in someone of Mitrovic's talent would surely make him more susceptible to sanctioning his striker's exit.

The 22-year-old former Anderlecht man would be the ideal addition to the Clarets front-line, and he would offer them a more physical presence. He would certainly help fill the void left behind by Gray at Turf Moor, and a fresh start amongst new surroundings could be just what Mitrovic needs to help breathe life back into his stuttering career.

One potential stumbling block could be whether the Clarets are able to match the Serbian's £60,000 per week wages. Some kind of compromise will surely have to be reached, but if Burnley can stretch to somewhere near Mitrovic's current salary, a swap involving him and Gray could be the perfect outcome for all parties concerned.
