West Ham United recently completed the signing of Pablo Zabaleta on a free transfer following the defender’s departure from Premier League rivals Manchester City at the end of the 2016-17 season.

Zabaleta is past his best, but the 32-year-old can still do a very good job at right-back for West Ham. The Argentina international and Sam Byram are going to fight for the right-back spot in Slaven Bilic’s starting lineup next season.

Michail Antonio was used at right-back on many occasions last season, meaning that West Ham essentially have three players for that position for the 2017-18 campaign.

Do West Ham need another right-back? No, but the Hammers have been linked with another player for that very position.

According to Il Messaggero in Italy, West Ham are interested in signing Silvan Widmer from Udinese. Sport Witness has posted the article from the print edition online stating that the Hammers are ready to make an £8.76 million (€10m) offer for the 24-year-old right-back.

Widmer is a very good right-back and is a Switzerland international, but it does not make sense for West Ham to sign him as they already have two very good players for that position.
