Liverpool have been linked with summer swoop for the Genoa player.
The 24-year-old only has one year left on his current contract and the Reds are said to be pondering a move, along with Borussia Dortmund, Schalke and Fiorentina.
The Uruguayan is predominantly a left-sided midfielder although he can also play at left-back if required, and considering Liverpool's lack of options in the latter position it could be there where manager Jurgen Klopp sees him playing if he were to arrive at Anfield.
Liverpool are said to have joined the race in recent weeks and it remains to be seen if they are ready to bid now or risk taking him on a free transfer in 12 months.
The most likely option is that he is sold in the current transfer window, meaning Klopp could have to act fast for a player who could be available for a cut-price fee.
Laxalt has featured 83 times for Genoa, scoring four goals and providing nine assists in the process.
Liverpool could do with another wide option and Laxalt's versatility means it makes sense for Klopp to be paying attention.
He may have to do battle with his former club Dortmund to get a deal over the line but only time will tell how this one plays out.
