A number of clubs at home and abroad are tracking Sunderland defender Michael Ledger after his impressive loan spell at Viking Stavanger, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Ledger has just ended a successful loan spell at Norwegian side Viking where he made 14 appearances after joining the club in March.

Viking were keen to extend Ledger's loan, but Sunderland have recalled him to have him back for pre-season training to see if he can break into the first-team ahead of next season in the Championship.

A number of German clubs extensively scout teams in Norway and Mainz are thought to have been impressed by Ledger and have made an enquiry for the central defender.

A Scottish Premiership side and a League One club have both made enquiries for Ledger and are waiting to see if Sunderland plan to keep the defender next season or are willing to loan him again

The 19-year-old has come through the ranks at Sunderland and is a regular in the club's Under-23s but has yet to make a senior appearance for the Black Cats.
