The Everton man is reportedly wanted by Tottenham Hotspur, but Chelsea have now entered the race, according to the bookies.

Popular bookmakers SkyBET have slashed the odds on Chelsea signing Toffees star Ross Barkley, making them the new 3/1 second favourites to win the race for his signature.

The 23-year-old endured a challenging campaign last season, finding himself the target of heavy criticism from the Goodison Park faithful.

Despite showcasing flashes of his true potential, his inconsistency undermined his season, and rumours linking him with an exit from Everton refuse to go away.

With this in mind, SkyBET firmly believe that Barkley will be plying his trade away from Goodison Park next term. The popular bookies have cut the odds on the England international moving to Chelsea down into 3/1, behind only Spurs, who are listed at 9/4.

It seems to have reached a stage now where the 23-year-old needs to leave Merseyside, especially with the arrival of Davy Klaassen, and the Toffees' continued pursuit of Swansea City midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.

A move to Chelsea would seem a strange one, however, what with the wealth off midfield talent currently at Antonio Conte's disposal at Stamford Bridge.

A switch to Tottenham still seems to be the more likely option, but with two-and-a-half months remaining until the transfer window slams shut, there will surely be plenty more twists and turns still to come in this transfer saga.
