Blackburn Rovers winger Connor Mahoney
Mahoney is already said to have agreed terms and completed a medical ahead of a move to Forest, however the Reds' ongoing failure to reach an agreement with Blackburn has seemingly allowed Boro to pounce.
Although out of contract this summer, the player's age means that any buying club must also strike a deal with Rovers, as in a normal transfer. However, if this does not happen, a fee for the 20-year-old will ultimately be decided at a tribunal hearing.
Mahoney is said to be attracted by Mark Warburton's reputation for developing young players, however Middlesbrough are expected to be able to blow Forest out of the water financially, not to mention offer, in all likelihood, the greater chance at playing Premier League football in the coming years.

And as far as those of a Reds' persuasion are concerned, they already know which way the Mahoney deal is heading...
That means he will go to Middlesbrough as they will offer him more money!— Joe (@JoeS1989) 19 June 2017
if Boro serious about signing Mahoney i think will miss out, cant compete with them financially, must concentrate quality full back #nffc— MLW:) (@matleslie68) 19 June 2017
Will be really frustrated if we don't get Mahoney, been excited since we've been linked with him. Can't compete with Boro's £££ though #nffc— Forest Fanzone (@forestfanzone) 19 June 2017
Time to forget about Mahoney. Looks like we're being a bit tight not agreeing a fee with Blackburn. Move onto the next target #nffc— error. (@scotty1865) 19 June 2017
Real shame if we miss out on Mahoney, exactly the sort of young talent we should be looking to bring into the club— Lowey (@LoweyNFFC) 19 June 2017
Would be happy with him but If Mahoney has agreed terms & then goes to Boro' then so be it. We need 100% committed players 2 the cause #nffc— Andy Hose (@ahosey31) 19 June 2017
Do Nottingham Forest still have a shot at signing Mahoney, or will Middlesbrough pounce?
