Oliver Burke's manager's comments suggest that Sheffield Wednesday could be wasting their time pursuing the RB Leipzig winger.

Wednesday were linked with a loan for Burke, who cost Leipzig £13 million from Nottingham Forest a year ago, by The Sun on Sunday.

The 20-year-old has only made five starts for the Bundesliga runners-up, which has already prompted speculation that a return to English football could be on the cards this coming campaign.

However, allowing Burke to leave Burke is currently out of the question, according to Leipzig boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.

"He is a player with obvious qualities, but he has brought some deficits with him," the Austrian told The Scottish Sun.

"He’s not been able to show his main strength – which is his speed when he sprints with the ball – because he’s no had as many opportunities as he would have liked.

"He’s not yet showed what he was bought for, but we certainly have not yet given up hope. I believe he will show his qualities and we will still have a lot of joy.

"It’s logical he will take some time to adjust. But a loan or sale is currently out of the question."

Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal is believed to want to add another winger to his squad this summer, ahead of another assault on promotion to the Premier League.

However, even if Leipzig were to change their mind over Burke, it is likely the Owls would face competition from top flight clubs to sign the Scotland international.
