Matt Derbyshire celebrates
Leeds United are keen on signing Matt Derbyshire, The Mail reports.
Derbyshire is known to new boss Thomas Christiansen, who managed in Cyprus last season with APOEL.
The striker finished as top scorer in Cyprus' top flight, scoring 26 goals for Omonia Nicosia, 20 in 24 league games.
Nottingham Forest's Matt Derbyshire celebrates
Derbyshire is a rare breed of English footballer who has chosen to play abroad, and has enjoyed considerable success because of it.
A former England under-21 international a decade ago, Derbyshire has never really enjoyed prolific success in his homeland.
Spells with Rotherham, Blackburn and Nottingham Forest have been inconsistent, and he has never reached double figures in the Championship.
Now 31, Derbyshire certainly could be a useful complement for Chris Wood, but his record in England means his exploits abroad are taken with a pinch of salt.
Leeds fans are unconvinced over a potential deal. Here is a look at how they reacted on Twitter...
Also calling b.s. on us wanting Derbyshire, media will link us with every player to ever visit Cyprus or walk in a kebab/chippy #lufc— Lee Couling (@LeeCouling) June 18, 2017
Matt Derbyshire: not good enough for a team looking to get promoted to the Premier League, plus he started on Berardi, a double no #lufc— Max (@AtypicalLeeds) June 18, 2017
#LUFC I think Derbyshire is a decent player tbh. Did well in a poor Rotherham side and scored more than Doukara did.— Neil (@OooahhBerardi) June 18, 2017
