Birmingham City manager Harry Redknapp has told The Scottish Sun that he did not make a formal offer for Jonny Hayes before the winger’s move from Aberdeen to Celtic.

Redknapp has revealed that he was interested in signing the 29-year-old winger, and that he watched him in action for Aberdeen against Scottish Premiership rivals Celtic in the final of the Scottish Cup.

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager has stated that he would have signed the former Inverness Caledonian Thistle winger had he not moved to the Hoops recently.

Aberdeen's Jonathan Hayes looks dejected after a missed chance

“We didn’t make a formal offer for the boy,” Redknapp told The Scottish Sun about Hayes. “But we did make enquiries. I like Hayes very much as a player and we would have taken him.

“He was the main reason why I came up for the Cup Final. But I understand the pull of Celtic for him. If they hadn’t been taking him I’d definitely have been very interested.”

Hayes is a very good winger and played well for Aberdeen, and he could prove to be a very important and successful signing for Celtic.

The Republic of Ireland international is going to enhance the quality and the depth of the current Celtic squad.

Moreover, signing Hayes has weakened Aberdeen, which has in turn has enhanced the Hoops’ chances of winning the Scottish Premiership next season.

Celtic will be aiming to win the Scottish Premiership, the Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Cup once again next season.
