Rangers now know who they will face in their first foray into European football for six years. The Glasgow side will take on the unknown quantity of Luxembourg side Progres Niederkorn in the Europa League first qualifying round.

The side have played 12 times in Europe previously and have not had the best of luck. They have drawn twice however, against Glentoran and Shamrock Rovers, but have never won a European tie.

One of their current players will have extra reason to want a win against Rangers however. That player is Algerian defender Ismael Bouzid.

The 33-year-old has faced off with Rangers before, as he is a former Hearts and Kilmarnock player. He spent two seasons at Hearts from 2009 until 2011. In that time he faced Rangers six times, with one win to his name. He also scored the winning goal against Rangers’ Old Firm rivals Celtic in a December 2009 clash.

But the reason he will want to get the better of Rangers, is because he was snubbed by the club in 2014. Bouzid went on trial with Rangers, then managed by Ally McCoist and on the verge of their first season in the Scottish Championship. The 13-cap international was on a short-term trial at the club after leaving Kilmarnock, as reported on the Rangers website.

The trial came to nothing and he joined the Luxembourg side in the November, where he remains today.

Bouzid is currently nursing a meniscus injury but he will undoubtedly hopes it heals in time to face Rangers, the side who decided against him three summers ago.
