Serge Gnabry was on target for Germany's under-21 side as they recorded a win in their opening game at the European Championships.

Gnabry followed up a goal from Max Meyer to lead his side to a 2-0 win over Czech Republic.

It has been a big week for the winger, who sealed a transfer to Bayern Munich shortly before the tournament.

Just 12 months ago Gnabry left Arsenal, signing for Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.

Gnabry has now scored 11 goals in his last 12 games for Germany at youth levels.

A poor loan spell at West Brom and injury problems stunted his progress at Arsenal, but the better he becomes, the more it looks like a mistake made by the Gunners in giving up on him too early.

Gnabry may have wanted to return to Germany, but it is easy to make the case that Arsenal should have fought harder to keep him.

With a transfer to Bayern secured, he has an opportunity to become one of his country's big stars, and his goal at the under-21 championships shows he is on the right track.

Next summer Gnabry could be starring at the World Cup for Germany, and the outcry and bemusement from Arsenal fans will only grow.
