Everton's Ross Barkley celebrates with Gerard Deulofeu after scoring their second goal

Tottenham Hotspur may not have agreed any summer signings as yet, but some of the familiar names are still being thrown around the rumour mill, including that of Ross Barkley.

French newspaper L'Equipe claims Everton manager Ronald Koeman still wants to keep the England international, despite his failure to sign a new deal and the arrival of Davy Klassen from Ajax.

The Toffees boss is said to want the 23-year-old to remain but that Tottenham continue to monitor the situation carefully.

The problem is, he will not come cheap and one wonders if he has really done enough to justify the price it would take to bring him to North London from Merseyside this summer.

In other news, the Sun claims Tottenham want to sign Alfie Mawson from Swansea City and are prepared to open the bidding at £15million.

The young centre-back is one of the brightest in the league and he would be the perfect fit for a Spurs side continuing to build not just for the here and now but also for the future.

The problem is, given the inflated transfer market and Mawson's contract situation, the Swans may well ask for a fee Tottenham are simply not willing to pay.

Not so with another alleged defensive target, with the Daily Mail claiming Tottenham are in fact interested in Manchester United's Chris Smalling.

He may be four years older than Mawson but at least Tottenham know how much it will take to get their man, with the Daily Star claiming United want £15million.

That just so happens to be the fee they are willing to pay for Mawson, so watch this space...
