Birmingham City should hijack Rangers' bid to sign Hearts starlet Jamie Walker and could use Greg Stewart in any potential bid for the winger.
The 23-year-old scored 15 goals last season and his performances have not gone unnoticed. The Scotland U21 international has been the subject of interest from Scottish giants Rangers.
According to BBC Sport, Rangers have had a second bid rejected and was thought to be in the region of £600,000. Walker is out-of-contract next summer but Hearts are thought to be holding out for at least £1 million.
Walker has been a mainstay in the Hearts team for the past five years but looks set on leaving the club after rejecting a new contract to extend his stay at Tynecastle.
Birmingham could take a gamble on Walker and with the asking price so low, the Midlands club would be be able to afford to take the risk on the dynamic winger.
If the Blues are not keen on paying the full asking price for Walker then they can always use Greg Stewart as a makeweight in any potential deal.
Greg Stewart was signed from SPL side Dundee last summer
The 27-year-old moved to St. Andrews last summer from SPL side Dundee but struggled to find his feet in his debut season in the Championship. He failed to score in any of his 22 appearances for the club.
Stewart has been linked with a move back to the SPL following his disappointing campaign. Aberdeen, Motherwell and Dundee have reportedly stated their interest in bringing the forward back to Scotland (Courier).
Hearts would be tempted by the proposition of selling one of their prized assets for a nominal fee and Stewart in exchange, who is capable of playing across any of the up front four positions.
Birmingham lack depth in the wide areas and the potential signing of Walker would certainly add an intriguing option on either wing.
Jamie Walker has made over 180 appearances for Hearts in five seasons
