Jordan Pickford recently moved from Sunderland to Everton, but should Liverpool have made a move for him?

Steve Nicol has suggested to ESPN FC that Liverpool should have signed Jordan Pickford in the summer transfer window.

Everton recently competed the signing of Pickford from Sunderland for an initial transfer fee of £25 million, as reported on the Toffees’ official website.

Liverpool legend Nicol has suggested that the Reds should have moved for the 23-year-old England Under-21 international.

“Tell you what, I wish Liverpool had signed him,” Nicol told ESPN FC about Pickford. “Good signing.”

Pickford is a very good goalkeeper and was one of the best players for Sunderland during the 2016-17 season.

The Englishman has a lot of potential, and he is only going to get better; Everton have indeed made a very smart signing.

Liverpool should have tried to sign Pickford, especially as they do not have a world-class goalkeeper in their squad.

Given the age and potential of the England Under-21 international, he would have been a great long-term signing for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The fact that Liverpool could feature in the group stage of the Champions League next season would have been tempting for Pickford.
