Shaun Teale has told Sky Sports News that he would be glad to see former club Aston Villa sign John Terry this summer.
The 36-year-old is a free agent after being released by Chelsea.
Sky Sports reported earlier this week that Aston Villa had put forward an offer to the veteran centre-back, who won five Premier League titles with the Blues.
It would certainly be a very high-profile coup for Villa boss Steve Bruce should he pull it off, and Teale, who spent four years at Villa Park in the 90s, says that signing such a figure "can only be a good thing".
“I think it can only be a good thing,” Teale told Sky Sports News.
“His experience, his leadership and they way he plays the game he is going to teach the youngsters how to play the game properly and how to defend properly.”
Aston Villa could face competition from cross-city rivals Birmingham for the former England international.
Blues boss Harry Redknapp has also offered Terry a contract and Sky Bet have them as 1/4 favourites to sign him, with Villa second favourites at 4/1.
Next term will be Bruce's first full season in charge of the Villans, and the veteran manager, who has four Premier League promotions under his belt, will be expected to lead the West Midlands side back into the big time - with or without Terry.
