Sheffield United are still keen on Southend's Ryan Leonard as they set about improving their midfield.
Southend's Ryan Leonard
Local Sheffield paper, The Star are reporting that Sheffield Utd are pushing on to make Southend's Ryan Leonard their next signing this summer as the player's agent has signalled that his man wants away to a Championship team.
No transfer request
The Star report quotes his agent Peter Conning as saying: "Ryan has not submitted a transfer request but he would certainly like to play at a higher level and move on from Southend."
Leonard was offered a new three-year deal by Southend, but has not yet signed which is adding to speculation that he will be keen to listen to offers. Still the Shrimpers have taken the option to extend his contract for a year.

Blades' interest has not faded
Sheffield Utd's interest in Leonard is not a recent thing. In May the Echo News reported that the midfielder had been watching the player and at that time Southend's manager Phil Brown said: "The interest in Lenny at the moment is only manager to manager but I've told him it would have to be a substantial bid to sign him."
The Blades are due to come into additional funds following Hull City's sale of Harry McGuire to Leicester City, as reported by BBC Sport.
Southend United's Ryan Leonard has several clubs after him
In these situations the player usually holds the cards, but the Sheffield Telegraph has stated that the Blades could be rivalled by Bolton Wanderers and Millwall for the 25-year-old's signature. Time will tell if Sheffield Utd test Southend's resolve, but they may have to be quick off the mark to land the player and they may also need to have some fairly deep pockets.
