Tottenham Hotspur are linked with both Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez and Demarai Gray.

According to a report in the Daily Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur have rejected the chance to sign Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City, but retain an interest in Demarai Gray.
Spurs have been linked with a move for Mahrez for much of the summer so far, but have decided against bidding for the Algerian international.
Instead, the Lilywhites have a set their sights upon Gray – who they feel could be a more prudent addition.

Gray is available for £22 million, and Spurs are now considering paying Leicester’s asking price for the England youth international.
However, it could be suggested that Tottenham are targeting the wrong player.
Spurs have looked towards the future with their transfer deals over a number of seasons, and had great success.
But there most be a point where Spurs think about the here and now, if they are to build upon what they have.

Tottenham are so close to having a team capable of winning the Premier League, but they cannot afford to be static.
And the addition of a player like Mahrez could be the difference between finishing top or failing just short again.
Mahrez would have a far greater influence than Gray on Spurs’ first-team in the short-term, and if Pochettino’s side do have genuine ambitions of winning the title, they need to stop always looking to the future and start thinking more about the present.
