Barcelona's Lionel Messi reacts
While Lanzini has been training alongside the Barcelona legend with Argentina, it's not clear how much influence the Hammers playmaker would have over Messi's choice of tattoo.
Of course the man widely regarded as the greatest player of all time has in actual fact had a tattoo of Jesus Christ on his arm.
But that did not stop Twitter erupting to a hilarious post from a football journalist captioned 'Game recognise game' which showed Messi posing with the tattoo alongside a strikingly similar real life picture of big Geordie striker Carroll.
West Ham United's Andy Carroll
Perhaps Messi admires the fact that Carroll - despite his injury problems - can do it on a cold Tuesday night at Stoke, something he is yet to achieve.
The picture is sure to spark a few laughs, and after Hammers skipper Mark Noble revealed all on the club's WhatsApp chat group in the wake of the Dimitri Payet saga earlier this year, it's a safe bet to say the players will have shared a giggle amongst themselves.
Carroll wheels away in celebration
Carroll spent much of last season on the treatment table again but showed when he was able to put together a run of injury-free games he can be as deadly as the top strikers.
Jack Sullivan, son of Hammers co-owner David was one of more than 1,300 people to like and share the post which certainly caught the imagination of football fans with suggestions including it is a sure sign West Ham were set to sign Messi.
