Leeds United are very close to making a signing, according to reports in Romania.
Leeds have been linked with the 26-year-old for the best part of a year but it would appear as if their long-standing curiosity may finally be satisfied.
Digi Sport have reported that negotiations between United and the Bundesliga side are at an "advanced" stage and that the Romania international is keen on a fresh challenge.
The report goes on to claim that he will make a decision on his future when he returns from holidays.
Maxim, who joined Stuttgart in 2013, netted five goals and bagged six assists in helping his club win promotion back to Germany's top flight this past season.
It does not give an indication in regards to price, but his contract expires in 2019 so he may not come cheap.
Leeds are still without a manager following Garry Monk's shock resignation last month, with Alan Pardew 5/4 favourite with Sky Bet to land the full-time role.
The Whites have already signed winger Hadi Sacko this summer but there has not been a great deal of speculation regarding incomings, aside from Maxim.
