Defender says he felt Villarreal were the best option for his career.
Sporting Lisbon's Ruben Semedo in action against Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Ruben Semedo has told Spanish newspaper AS his decision to join Villarreal was an easy one to make.
Semedo sealed his switch to the La Liga side yesterday, ending days of speculation over his future.
Portuguese newspaper O Jogo had reported Newcastle were highly keen on signing the centre-back and hoped to tie up a deal.
Semedo though is convinced he has made the correct decision.
He told AS: "I have had other proposals to go to other teams, English teams, but when I heard the name of Villarreal I decided to come here."

He added that Villarreal was 'the best option I had', before adding that he liked their style of play and the quality already in the squad.
Villarreal finished fifth in La Liga last season and Semedo will get the opportunity to play in the Europa League.
Having played in the Champions League with Sporting Lisbon last season it is likely that getting into one of the competitions will have been a factor for Semedo.
There is little Newcastle could have done about that, but it does give them motivation to aim high and try and secure a European place next season, either through a high league finish or through the cup.
