Celtic defender Eoghan O'Connell was sent out on loan to Walsall last season.
Walsall boss Jon Whitney has confirmed to the Express and Star that he wants to sign Celtic defender Eoghan O’Connell.
O’Connell joined Walsall on loan in January, and impressed over the back end of the campaign.
The defender made 17 appearances for the Saddlers, who ended up finishing in mid-table in League One.
Whitney now wants to bring O’Connell back to the Bescot Stadium, but insists that there is still a lot of work to be done if the transfer is to be completed.
"With Eoghan, Celtic are keeping their options open at the moment,” the Walsall boss said. “Nothing has moved on that one yet. But I have registered my interest.”
Whether Celtic will allow O’Connell remains to be seen, as Brendan Rodgers is a fan of the youngster.
O’Connell made seven appearances for Celtic over the early part of the campaign, with Rodgers handing the youngster a chance to impress.
Celtic do have ambitious transfer plans this summer, which could see their defensive options increase.
If Celtic do capture their first choice targets, it may be that O’Connell is allowed to leave on a temporary move once again, as his first-team chances could be limited.
