According to the Daily Mail, Rangers are closing in on the appointment of a new director of football – and talks are ongoing over a £700,000 deal for Portuguese winger Daniel Candeias.

The Gers have been busy already this summer, bringing in defender Bruno Alves and midfielder Ryan Jack, whilst deals for Fabio Cardoso, Carlos Pena, Dalcio and Eduardo Herrera are all set up.

However, manager Pedro Caixinha still needs to bring in new signings to boost his Rangers squad, and another winger appears to be on his radar despite Dalcio's imminent arrival.

The Daily Mail report that Rangers are hoping to sign Benfica winger Daniel Candeias, and talks are continuing over a £700,000 deal to bring him to Ibrox this summer.

Candeias, 29, worked with Caixinha at Nacional in a fruitful spell, but has failed to play with Benfica since his 2014 move, instead spending time out on loan at Nurnberg, Granada, Metz, Alanyaspor.

The Portuguese wide man could yet stay in Turkey with Alanyaspor, but Rangers are hoping to win the race by continuing negotiations with Benfica for his signature.

Elsewhere, the report adds that Rangers are closing in on the appointment of a director of football, though no name is given for who could be arriving at Ibrox.

Rangers admitted they wanted to bring in a director of football following Frank McParland's departure alongside manager Mark Warburton in February, but their search has so far proved fruitless. Now, with the transfer market starting heat up, the Gers could land the transfer guru they have been looking for.
