Leeds United candidate and new technical director know each other well.
Odds have been slashed on Ramos being appointed, with SkyBet bringing him into become second favourite behind Garry Monk's former assistant Pep Clotet.
Ramos is out of work after leaving Malaga last season and is best known in England for a spell at Tottenham, and is the last manager to win them a trophy, back in 2008.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Juande Ramos talks to Gareth Bale (L) during the game
There is a Spanish connection on Leeds' board with Ivan Bravo, and newly appointed technical director Victor Orta.
In fact Orta and Ramos have worked together before, a decade ago at Sevilla.
Unfortunately, an ominous sign for Leeds fans is that it was not exactly smooth sailing.
El Confidencial reported in 2007 of a fraught exchange, after Sevilla signed a player for eight million Euros when Ramos was sleeping.
The defender concerned was Colombian player Aquivaldo Mosquera, and Ramos learned of it when asked by a journalist the next day, and he was humiliated as he asked in response; "And who is that?"
Mosquera was signed under the 'express instructions' and scouting of Victor Orta - who had been to Mexico and Venezuela to see him play for Pachuca.
Juande Ramos went onto manage Real Madrid
The decision had not been effectively communicated to the manager, who was struggling to relate to the club hierarchy.
Ramos resigned as coach just two months later, having selected Mosquera in just two matches and substituted him in both.
At Leeds he would have to hope there is better communication, and clearly if he took the job, he will have been prepared to mend bridges.
He certainly will know what he is getting into, and Ramos is not the carefree young coach he was in 2007, instead a manager who has since been fired multiple times.
This would bring with it a touch of humility to his situation, but if it started to go wrong at Elland Road for him with player recruitment - he cannot say he has not been warned.
