Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez has released a statement telling the club that he wants to leave this summer, as quoted by Sky Sports.

Mahrez, 26, was one of the stars of the show as Leicester won the Premier League in the 2015/16 season, racking up 17 goals and 11 assists in a stunning season for the Foxes.

The Algerian received plenty of interest last term, but he chose to stay with Leicester – and he ended the campaign with ten goals and five assists in all competitions, a stark decline from his 2015/16 statistics.

Now, Mahrez – as quoted by Sky Sports – has told Leicester that the time is right for him to move on and join another club this summer, with a number of teams no doubt eyeing Mahrez up for a summer swoop.

One team who could be interested in Mahrez’s attempts to leave Leicester is Tottenham Hotspur, who made an ambitious bid to land the wide man in January according to The Times.

Tottenham should be in the market for another winger this summer, given that Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Moussa Sissoko failed to make an impression having joined the club last summer, and a player who can conjure moments of magic like Mahrez fits the bill for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

It’s unclear just how much Leicester would want for Mahrez, but with the player seeking Champions League football again, this seems like the ideal time for Tottenham to strike and swoop for a player they wanted earlier this year.

Having some up just short with two title bids in the last two seasons, it’s time for Spurs to splash cash on one big difference-making player, and landing Mahrez to team up with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Harry Kane could make Tottenham a potent force.

With an already strong defence, Spurs may just be one attacking player away from really pushing for silverware, and Mahrez – a proven Premier League star who can create moments of magic, something Spurs sometimes lacked in close games this term – should be the man that Tottenham focus on signing this summer.
