Huddersfield Town are preparing to try and sign West Ham striker Ashley Fletcher, according to The Mirror.

The Terriers are keen to sign Fletcher on loan from the Hammers, and have already enquired after the former Manchester United youth starlet.

Fletcher has played in Yorkshire previously on loan at Barnsley, and was linked regularly to Leeds United last season.

Leeds attempted to sign Fletcher permanently before he signed for the Hammers, and then made two attempts to sign him on loan, both last summer and in January, The Sun reported.

West Ham's dearth of strikers meant they kept him around and resisted enquiries, despite restricting Fletcher to under-23 appearances and cameo appearances from the bench.

The Hammers are pushing ahead to try and sign Kelechi Iheanacho from Manchester City, SkySports report, which would make Fletcher more expendable to loan out.

If Leeds still harboured aspirations to bring Fletcher in despite Garry Monk's resignation, Huddersfield's interest is a serious blow.

Huddersfield won promotion to the Premier League via the play-off final on Monday, and can offer an opportunity to play in the top flight which Yorkshire rivals Leeds cannot.
