Everton have been trying to tie their star midfielder Ross Barkley to a new contract this season, but it appears that those negotiations have reached their end.

The Daily Mirror reports that the Toffees will now listen to offers for the 23-year-old, who they value at £50million.

A reported target for Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, the Everton youth product has scored five goals and provided nine assists in his 36 Premier League appearances this season.

The loss of Barkley will be a blow to Ronald Koeman’s side as he looks to strengthen his squad to improve on this season's seventh placed finish.

However, £50m is a considerable income and the Everton manager could use those funds to sign in-demand Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri as a perfect replacement for the England international.

The 25-year-old Ivory Coast international has been in impressive form for the French Ligue 1 club this season, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists as he helped his side to a third placed finish, behind Paris Saint-Germain and champions Monaco.

The Guardian reports that the midfielder has interested Premier League sides Arsenal and Tottenham, but he could prove to be a perfect replacement for the outgoing Ross Barkley for Everton.

Seri, who has been integral in a midfield three to Nice’s success this season, would provide an assured touch in midfield, with the ability to dictate play with his vision and passing range, as well as being able to contribute his fair share of goals.

The Toffees may start on the back foot when it comes to challenging the spending power of their Premier League rivals, but the investment in Seri by Ronald Koeman would be a huge step towards challenging for a place in the Champion’s League next season and the sale of Barkley would provide the funds to make it happen.
