Two years after Troy Deeney said he dreamed of scoring at St James' Park, could he become a Magpie?

Newcastle United are likely to be busy in the upcoming transfer market and, if the bookmakers are to be believed, the Magpies could make a move for Watford striker Troy Deeney.

Sky Bet have listed Rafa Benitez's side as second favourites to sign the 28-year-old this summer, and while there has been no official transfer link as yet, previous comments from the player suggest he would enjoy running out at St. James' Park.

In an interview given to radio station Talk Sport and later published online by the Chronicle back in 2015, the Watford man admitted his desperation to find the net at the famous old stadium.

"The one I want to play, I hope they stay up, is actually Newcastle away," Deeney said.

"I'm a bit old school. I love fans. I love 50,000 fans giving you so much grief."

But what chance those same fans giving him adulation?

The bookies do not always get it right when it comes to transfers, yet they will have their reasons for naming Newcastle among favourites for the goal-scorer this summer.

Deeney has found the net 106 times in 303 matches for the Hornets, and with Newcastle over reliant on Dwight Gayle this season they are likely to bring in at least one new experienced forward to ease the pressure on the former Crystal Palace man.

Deeney fits the bill and it would be an interesting twist if, two years after dreaming of scoring against the Magpies, the forward is finding the net in their colours.
