Gillingham have beaten off interest from other clubs to land Yeovil Town star Alex Lacey on a free transfer, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Lacey is available on a free transfer after running down his contract at Huish Park.
Lacey enjoyed an impressive season for Yeovil in League Two this season, making 47 appearances in all competitions and establishing himself as a key man in Darren Way's side.
The 23-year-old saw his performances recognised after sweeping the board at Yeovil's annual end of season Player of the Year awards.
Lacey began his career at Luton Town before joining Yeovil in the summer of 2015 and he has made 72 appearances for the Glovers since his arrival.

A number of League One and League Two clubs have been chasing Lacey's signature, but Gillingham have moved quickly to agree a deal for the highly-rated centre-back.
The Gills finished 20th in League One this season and they are looking to bring in a number of new faces to revamp the squad ahead of next season.
Lacey is the first signing at the Priestfield since Peter Taylor returned to the club as their new director of football.
