The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder will have to be even more patient for another run-out.
Tottenham Hotspur fans have been desperate to see teenage sensation Marcus Edwards get more minutes on the field, with his 15-minute cameo against Gillingham in the EFL Cup his only senior outing to date.
The upcoming friendly against Kitchee SC in Hong Kong seemed the perfect opportunity for the 18-year-old to show what he can do alongside his more experienced teammates, but his name was conspicuous by its absence when the full squad was announced on Tottenham's official Twitter account this week.
After missing the recent under-23 clash against Manchester United, Edwards appears to have picked up an injury at the worst possible time, with Tottenham having little left to play for in their 7-1 hammering of Hull City and their post-season friendly the perfect chance to blood some of the next generation.
With the likes of Luke Amos, Kazaiah Stertling and Filip Lesniak all included in the travelling party, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino looks set to run the rule over some of his young prospects.
Edwards is the pick of the bunch, and the Spurs fans that have been watching his progress for some time cannot wait for him to official burst onto the scene. Unfortunately for them and for the player himself, that moment still seems some way off.
There is no doubt Edwards' time will come and Tottenham will benefit for years from his innate talent. It is only a shame that fate has intervened to rob him of some priceless chances this month.
