Should Premier League clubs target Lees after Wednesday playoff exit?

Tom Lees has had another impressive season for Sheffield Wednesday, but after their playoff exit might Premier League sides come sniffing around?

Sheffield Wednesday will be playing in the Sky Bet Championship for at least one more season following their playoff defeat to Huddersfield Town.

With the scores level at 1-1 on aggregate after two legs the Owls were eventually eliminated by their Yorkshire rivals in a penalty shootout.

For Wednesday it is a disappointment, but for any Premier League clubs targeting their players it could be the catalyst that allows clubs to prise them away from Hillsborough.

Yet surprisingly there has so far been no talk of top flight sides looking to sign defender Tom Lees - someone who the Mirror claim was attracting interest from Burnley 12 months ago following their promotion.

Since then Lees has admittedly signed a new five-year contract, but he has also been in fine form for the Owls and if the right offer came in then that deal would not stop a move.

The 26-year-old has played 38 games in all competitions during a season that Wednesday finished fourth in the table and who's defensive record of 45 goals conceded was bettered only by the top two, Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion.

With Newcastle and Brighton planning recruitment ahead of a campaign in the top flight and other Premier League sides looking to the Championship for gems, perhaps Lees should be higher on potential wish-lists.
