The upcoming summer transfer window is going to be crucial for Newcastle United.

Rafael Benitez has been reportedly promised a massive transfer war-chest to sign players of his choice. While he is expected to add a few quality players to his ranks, a few players could be shown the door as well.

One of the players who could be heading towards the exit door is Daryl Murphy.

Murphy joined Newcastle last summer on a two-year-contract. He made 17 appearances in all competitions for the Magpies and scored six goals.

His signing was a strange one. Benitez has always relied on squad building, and his signing is another testament to that - a reliable squad player who weighed in with crucial goals when the club was light on numbers.

However, Premier League is a different ball-game and Benitez needs to sign strikers who are good enough in the top tier.

According to reports from The Chronicle, the likes of Ipswich, Sunderland, Derby and Wolves are all interested in signing him.

Murphy played for Sunderland and Ipswich before so there will be a temptation to join there. However, a move to Wolves or Derby cannot be completely ruled out either.

He has gained himself a reputation as a reliable goalscorer and could prove to be a smart signing for Wolves, even if he is made available on a short time basis.
